The Maruti YL1 sedan, the replacement to the SX4, was spotted testing in Gurgaon by Saugat Sanyal of Team-BHP.com. Based on the Suzuki Authentics Concept showcased at Auto Shanghai 2013, the C-Segment sedan has notably grown in size.
According to a report on Team BHP, the YL1 would offer the existing mix of engines - petrol and diesel, and manual and automatic gearbox options.
Going by previous spyshots, the interiors would be vastly better than the current car in design, fit, finish and quality. Top-end variants would have all common safety features such as dual airbags, ABS and EBD.
The YL1 sedan would retain the high ground clearance of the current model. The rear legroom would rival the Nissan Sunny, and some of the interior parts would be borrowed from the Ertiga for controlling cost. It is reported that the Ertiga's 1.4-liter K-Series petrol engine and the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine would be the two engines on offer.
Variants would follow the usual nomenclature (LXi, LDi, VXi, VDi, ZXi and ZDi) with the top-end model receiving 16-inch wheels. Hydraulic engine mounts and extensive use of sound proofing materials have decreased the NVH levels significantly, according to insiders who spoke to Team BHP.
