Could also get a stop-start system.
Maruti will soon introduce its AMT (automated manual transmission) technology on the Wagon R and Wagon R Stingray models, as this spyshot from GaadiWaadi shows.
The Wagon R with an AMT was launched in the Indonesian market last week with a modest price increase of INR 39,000 over the manual variant. Like the Celerio and the Alto K10, the AMT for the Wagon R is a 5-speed unit supplied by Italy's Magneti Marelli.
It will be paired to the 1.0-liter three-cylinder K-Series engine which makes 68 PS and 90 Nm of torque. As the spyshot shows, even the base LXi variant of the Wagon R will come with an AMT option. The Wagon R with a manual transmission is rated at 20.51 km/l and the AMT should match this figure.
In addition to the list of features on the Wagon R, the Stingray gets projector headlights, multi-spoke alloy wheels, clear-lens taillight enclosures and steering-mounted audio controls. Thanks to its pricing though (the base Stingray is INR 19,000 more than the Wagon R LXi), the Stingray has been unable to catch the fancy of the hatchback buyer in a similar manner as the Wagon R.
