The new pick-up codenamed Y9T will be launched next year.

Maruti is all set to enter the commercial vehicle segment with its upcoming pickup Y9T next year. But the Indian car maker understands that since it's a totally different segment, the sales network should be separate too. Hence, as reported by The Economic Times, MSIL is planning to set up a new network for its commercial vehicles operations.

Another crucial step, as reported earlier, is that Maruti will not organise a pan-India launch at once, instead the company is likely to handle the sales and marketing in a limited scale. That will not only help Maruti gauge the reach and success of the product, but should be more effective as well.

The Y9T will be powered by an all-new 800 cc 2-cylinder diesel engine which will then be passed on to some of MSIL's small cars like the upcoming Celerio diesel. The one-tonne truck could also be made available in a CNG-powered guise, reports indicate.

When it goes on sale early next year, it will compete with pickups with a similar payload capacity (1-tonne) like the Tata Ace, Mahindra Maxximo, and Ashok Leyland Dost.
