Maruti will launch its first ever LCV in India early next year. A prototype of the LCV, which is codenamed Y9T, was videotaped by Gaadi Waadi recently.

The Y9T was believed to be based on the Suzuki Carry LCV. However, the prototype spotted on test has more in common with the old Suzuki Futura pickup. Irrespective of the underpinnings, the Y9T will debut Maruti's first self-made diesel engine. The engine is reported to be a two-cylinder unit displacing about 800 cc and equipped with a turbocharger. The same engine will later be used on the Celerio, albeit with a better NVH package.

The Y9T will be powered by a new 800 cc diesel engine.

The Y9T, according to reports, will also be offered with a 1.2-liter engine firing CNG. Both engine variants would be capable of carrying payloads between 700 - 850 kg.

The Y9T will go up against established segment rivals like the hugely popular Tata Ace and Mahindra Maxximo. The loading bay area of the Y9T seems identical to the these rivals. Estimates say the Y9T will cost about INR 4 lakhs for the diesel variant and between INR 4.5 - 5 lakhs for the CNG variant.
