First of three plants will start functioning by mid-2017.
Two days ago, Suzuki Motor Company inaugurated its new production facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat. With a total capacity of 750,000 units per year, the plant will supply vehicles to Maruti Suzuki, and as a report by Business Standard mentions, it's expected to export 10-15 percent of its production.
The first of the three plants in the campus will begin functioning by mid-2017. An investment of about INR 3,000 crore has been allocated for the same, and has a planned annual capacity of 250,000 units.
The report adds that for the initial phase, it will run at a reduced capacity of 150,000 units per year. Spread over 640 acres, the plant has about 500 acres of space which can be used to setup production sites. An integrated supplier park will also come up in the premises.
MSIL is yet to announce which of the products will be manufactured at the new facility. A previous media report said the next generation Wagon R would be manufactured here, while other long-term product plans for the company, as reported in the media, include a large MPV to compete with the Innova codenamed RX, and the Vitara SUV.

The next gen Wagon R, a report said, will get a diesel variant and 3-row seating. Codenamed YJC, the vehicle is likely to enter production by mid-2017, which is inline with when the company has planned to start this plant's production.
