In December 2018, IAB reported how an official interior sketch of the Mahindra XUV 300 has revealed the carmaker's plan of introducing an AMT option. In line with that revelation, Rajan Wadhera, President, Mahindra & Mahindra (Automotive), has revealed the first details about it.

The Mahindra XUV300 will feature a Magneti Marelli-sourced AMT instead of the Ricardo-sourced unit used in the NuvoSport and the TUV300.

"The automatic product (AMT) is in the works, and it will be launched shortly," Wadhera told IAB on the sidelines of the Mahindra XUV300 launch. Moreover, he confirmed that the company will offer the AMT option in both petrol and diesel engine models.

Reports say that Mahindra will introduce a Magneti Marelli-sourced AMT unit in the XUV300 soon. So far, the company has sourced Automated Manual Transmissions from Ricardo, a UK-based supplier. The Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon, the direct rivals of its new sub-4 metre B-SUV, feature AMTs from Magneti-Marelli. Furthermore, it is being said that the AMT gearbox for the XUV300 will be replaced with an Aisin-sourced torque converter automatic transmission when the engines are upgraded to comply with the BSVI emission norms in 2020, the same way in case of the Marazzo.

The Mahindra XUV300 is available with two turbocharged engine options - 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. The former develops 110 BHP and 200 Nm of torque, while the latter produces 115 BHP and 300 Nm of torque. Currently, both the engines are available exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. The new Maruti Vitara Brezza rival has an ARAI-certified fuel economy rating of 17 km/l (petrol)/20 km/l (diesel).

An all-electric variant will follow in the second half of 2020. The zero-emission model will be presented with two powertrain options, with the top-spec version expected to come equipped with a 380-volt system developed in cooperation between Ssangyong and Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd.
