The ARAI-certified fuel economy figures of the Mahindra XUV300 are unofficially out. According to a report from Autocar India, the new sub-4 metre SUV delivers a fuel economy of 17 km/l (petrol)/20 km/l diesel.
The Mahindra XUV300 isn’t the most fuel efficient SUV in its segment. The Tata Nexon’s fuel economy rating is 17 km/l (petrol)/21.5 km/l (petrol). The diesel engine-only Maruti Vitara Brezza has the best-in-class fuel economy rating of 24.3 km/l. The Ford EcoSport is available with 1.0L turbocharged petrol, 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L turbocharged diesel engines, which return 18.1 km/l (1.0L petrol-MT)/17 km/l (1.5L petrol-MT*)/14.8 km/l (1.5L petrol-AT)/23 km/l (1.5L diesel-MT).
Where the Mahindra XUV300 leads in the segment is on features and performance. Its 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol and 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engines offer a best-in-class torque of 200 Nm and 300 Nm respectively. It is also very high on safety, with segment-first four disc brakes, 7 airbags, including a knee airbag for the driver, and front parking sensors. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard, but an AMT option is planned for introduction at a later stage.
