To be launched by Q1 2016.
The rear fascia of the Mahindra S101 (which could be branded the Mahindra XUV100) has been rendered by IAB's in-house artist, Shoeb R Kalania. This rendering is based on recent spyshots that revealed several styling cues of the hatchback's rear end, including the shape of the bumper, tailgate and tail lamps.
The Mahindra S101 will be the second monocoque-based and FWD car in its portfolio, after the Mahindra XUV500. The platform is brand new, and is expected to underpin more models.
Expected to be priced from INR 4 lakhs (ex-showroom), the new entry-level Mahindra car is confirmed to be powered by an all-new 1.2-litre petrol engine. It is reported to be a three-cylinder unit and was jointly developed with its Korean subsidiary Ssangyong.
A diesel version of the Mahindra XUV100 will also be introduced, which is expected to feature the mHawk 80 three-cylinder unit that powers the Mahindra TUV300. The motor produces 84 bhp and 230 Nm on the latter. Mahindra was also reported to be developing a new 1.2-liter diesel engine, which could be used otherwise. Like the TUV300, the XUV100 would get an Automated Manual Transmission, apart from a 5-speed gearbox
