Mahindra officials have confirmed that the S101 (codename) will see a market launch this year, and that it will debut a new petrol engine. Indian Autos Blog was told by officials that the engine in question will be a 1.2-liter unit, while other sources say that it will be a three-cylinder unit.
Pawan Goenka, Executive Director Mahindra & Mahindra, said that over 90 percent of demand in the utility vehicles segment comes for the diesel models, but acknowledged that the company was working with South Korean maker Ssangyong to develop a family of petrol engines.
The S101, which is expected to be called the Mahindra XUV100, rides on an all-new monocoque front-wheel drive platform, which is expected to underpin a family of cars. The TUV300 on the other hand uses a hydroformed ladder-frame rear-wheel drive platform derived from the new Scorpio.

Apart from the 1.2-liter engine, the XUV100 is also expected with a three-cylinder diesel engine, which could be the mHawk 80 unit seen on the TUV300, which develops 84 bhp and 230 Nm of torque. As in the TUV300, Mahindra would also offer an automated manual transmission on the XUV100.
