Images shared by Autocar India have revealed that the Mahindra TUV300 will join the Mumbai Police fleet. The report adds that the TUV300 will replace the aging Mahindra Bolero that has been a part of Mumbai Police's fleet for years.
Mumbai's police force has opted for the Mahindra TUV300 T4+ variant. It gets only basic features like manual air conditioning, central locking, power windows, and body colour bumpers. Safety features include dual front airbags and ABS. The TUV300 is finished in Pearl White with the Mumbai Police livery on the sides and their insignia on the bonnet.
When launched in September 2015, it came with a 1.5 L mHawk80 diesel engine with a power output of 84 hp and 230 Nm. Seven months later, Mahindra added a more powerful 1.5 L mHawk100 engine with 100 hp and 240 Nm. Currently, only the mHawk100 engine is offered to buyers. The Mahindra TUV300 is available in 4 grades - T4+, T6+, T8, and T10. The T8 and T10 can be had with an optional 5-speed AMT as well. Otherwise, a 5-speed manual transmission is offered as standard.
The base T4+ Mahindra TUV300 is priced at INR 8,25,961 (ex-showroom Delhi). The cheapest AMT variant, which is the T8 AMT, retails for INR 10,16,010 (ex-showroom Delhi), which is around INR 62,400 more than its manual counterpart. Its fully loaded T10 AMT Dual Tone form will set you back INR 10,90,507 (ex-showroom Delhi). Rivals of the Mahindra TUV300 include Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Honda WR-V, and Ford EcoSport.
Mahindra has added a new variant to the TUV300 lineup called TUV300 Plus. Essentially a longer version of the regular TUV300, the Mahindra TUV300 Plus has space for four passengers behind the second row thanks to the presence of jump seats. Owing to its greater than 4 m length, it's not bound by the small car regulations giving Mahindra the freedom to plonk a bigger engine. The TUV300 Plus gets a 2.2 L mHawk120 diesel with a power and torque output of 120 bhp and 280 Nm.
Upcoming Mahindra cars in India include - Mahindra U321 MPV, SsangYong Tivoli based Mahindra S201 (Maruti Vitara Brezza rival), and Mahindra Rexton (G4 SsangYong Rexton). The company has also announced a partnership with Ford to develop SUVs and EVs for the Indian market.
