A spy video of the Mahindra badged SsangYong Rexton undergoing testing on Indian roads has surfaced online courtesy YouTube user Prabhat Sharma. The Mahindra Rexton is expected to land in showrooms this festive season.
The test mule is finished in the same Atlantic Blue exterior shade as the display car that was showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. However, this particular example retains the original SsangYong grille. The badges at the front and rear have been covered.
Powering the Mahindra Rexton is a 2.2-litre diesel engine good for 178 bhp and 420 Nm of torque. It pairs with a Mercedes-Benz-sourced 7-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system. Mahindra could offer the SUV with a 6-speed manual transmission as well and 2WD to ensure a lower starting price.
Highlights of the Mahindra Rexton's features list include HID headlamps with LED DRL, 18-inch alloy wheels, electric sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, cognac brown leather upholstery, ventilated seats, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation, electric parking brake, and 9 airbags.
The Mahindra badged SsangYong Rexton was unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. Certain media outlets have taken to calling it Mahindra XUV700. However, the company is yet to announce the trade name.
The SsangYong Rexton will be brought to India via the CKD route and assembled at Mahindra's plant in Chakan Q3 2018 (July-September 2018) onwards. Its rivals will include the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and Isuzu MU-X.
