The Mahindra Marazzo (codename - Mahindra U321) is finally on sale in India. Prices of the new MPV start at Rs 9.99 lakh*.
The Marazzo becomes the first-ever Mahindra model to be jointly designed by the company's Mumbai-based design centre and Pininfarina. Furthermore, it is the first product that has been developed in cooperation between Mahindra North American Technical Centre (MNATC) in Troy, USA, and Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai, India.
Its design has been inspired by a shark. The company claims that its latest model is the world’s first passenger vehicle to have a transversely-mounted engine and front wheel drive layout with a frame-based architecture. The patented ‘Best of both World’ architecture leads to reduced floor height and a flat floor while offering the traditional benefits of a ladder frame platform.
The Mahindra Marazzo is available in 7- and 8-seat layouts. It's claimed to be spacious enough to accommodate eight 6-feet tall people with a Best-in-class shoulder room for the 2nd- and 3rd-row occupants. The middle row of seats can be moved forward or backwards. All the variants benefit from the new surround cool technology. Inspired by the cabin cooling system of an aircraft, this system provides diffused and direct airflow. With an in-cabin sound level of 43 decibels at idle, the Marazzo is claimed to have the quietest cabin in its class.
Powering the Mahindra Marazzo is the company's new 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. This oil-burner has compact dimensions and tips the scales at 141.13 kg. It produces a maximum power of 123 PS 3,500 RPM and a peak torque of 302 Nm at 1,600 RPM. The MPV is being claimed to offer a class-leading NVH and refinement. Mahindra has used crank-offset technology, which cuts down on the vibrations by 38%. Advanced dual mass flywheel technology has been used to reduce the engine rattle. The Marazzo has an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 17.6 kmpl.
The Mahindra Marazzo gets disc brakes on all the wheels. It meets the latest pedestrian protection norms. It also complies with Side and Rear crash norms that are not applicable to this class of vehicles. The bodyshell is made up of 52% high-strength high-press steel. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, Isofix child seat mounts, and rear cameras with sensors and dynamic guiding lines. The new model also offers a first-in-class emergency call feature that connects the driver's phone to emergency services and his friends and relatives with details of vehicle's location in case the airbags have deployed.
