Mahindra had said that all its launches starting in 2018 would come with a petrol engine option. However, there’s a different strategy for the upcoming Mahindra Marazzo MPV.
M&M will launch the Marazzo with a diesel engine, and a petrol engine option might follow later. This was revealed by Rajan Wadhera, Executive VP, R&D (Global Product Development, Automotive Sector), Mahindra & Mahindra. Reports say that this MPV, which is underpinned by an all-new platform, will employ a newly developed 1.5-litre diesel engine that is likely to produce around 121 hp and 300 Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual transmission will send power to the wheels.
Mahindra is working on four new petrol engines, ranging from 0.6- and 2.0-litre displacement. These include a 1.5-litre unit that will come in TGDI and MPFI versions, with up to 120 kW (163.15 PS) on tap. This unit could find its place in the Marazzo. Wadhera said it could get multiple engine options as the platform is designed to last for atleast a decade and spawn multiple body style.
