According to a new report, the Jeep Wrangler JL will be offered in India with only a 2.0-litre petrol engine. A product like this would be preferred by most customers in our market with a diesel engine, but FCA India plans to launch it as a petrol-only model, on 9 August 2019.

The Jeep Wrangler JL range comprises Sport, Sport S, Sahara and Rubicon trim levels and also a Moab special edition.

The fourth-gen Jeep Wrangler is made with three engines: 2.0L turbocharged petrol (272 PS/400 Nm), 3.6L naturally aspirated petrol (284 PS/347 Nm) and 2.2-litre diesel (200 PS/450 Nm). A 3.0-litre diesel engine is currently under development for the Jeep Wrangler JL. It is currently being tested internationally, and it could be offered internationally starting later this year. FCA India simply cannot miss the potential volumes if it were to offer a diesel engine. Maybe a diesel engine will be introduced a few months down the line.

The 2.0-litre petrol engine, like the 3.6-litre petrol engine and the 2.2-litre diesel engine, features an engine start-stop system as standard. It comes paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard, which could be another bummer for off-road enthusiasts counting on a diesel engine and a manual transmission for their go-anywhere SUV.

The outgoing Jeep Wrangler (JK) is available only in a single basic grade, while the new-gen Jeep Wrangler (JL) will likely be offered in at least two equipment lines. The latter has been spied in Sahara and Rubicon grades during local testing, and it has been reported that the Moab edition is also going to be a part of the range in India.

The Jeep Wrangler still comes out as a body-on-frame vehicle and still utilizes the proven five-link coil suspension configuration. The new-gen model has introduced a number of fresh updates for improvement of ride comfort, body-roll, and handling. Also, various measures have been taken to squeeze out a better fuel efficiency out of the new and improved package.

Throwing light on the design, the new-gen model adopts an evolutionary design. It features a gently swept back top of the keystone-shaped front grille flanked by round LED headlamps with more sophisticated graphics. A more rakish windshield, body-coloured sport bars and LED tail lamps at the back are a few more new exterior details. The new-gen model offers more significant changes on the inside and adopts a more comfort and convenience-oriented approach. It comes with features like passive keyless entry, push-button starter featuring a weather-proof surround, seats with adjustable bolster and lumbar support, longer armrests, 7-inch TFT LED MID and 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation.

The safety kit includes features like Trailor Sway Control (TSC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Tyre Pressure Monitoring Display, Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM), Electronic Stability Control (ECS) and more, as seen on SUVs of such class.
