FCA India has already been spotted earlier testing the Jeep Wrangler (JL) in the plush Sahara grade and the off-road-oriented Rubicon grade, but the range finalised for the launch hasn't been revealed. According to a new report from Overdrive, the range will include the Moab Edition that is based on the Sahara grade.
The Moab Edition, introduced in August last year, builds on the Sahara grade with some more off-roading capabilities. To be specific, it packs Rubicon hood and steel bumpers with removable end caps, aggressive 32-inch mud-terrain tyres, 17-inch Rubicon wheels painted in Low-Gloss Black and Rubicon rock rails. Other highlights include LED headlights and tail lights, Moab hood decal, Low-Gloss Black headlight surrounds and grille throats, leather-trimmed seats and a leather-wrapped dashboard with contrast stitching, passive keyless entry, 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system with sat-nav, 9-speaker Alpine sound system, Selec-Trac full-time two-speed transfer case and Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential.
On the safety front, the Jeep Wrangler JL Moab Edition is equipped with Tyre Pressure Monitoring Display, Electronic Stability Control (ECS), Trailor Sway Control (TSC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM) and more.
In the U.S. market, there are two engine options. The first option is the 3.6L Pentastar naturally aspirated petrol which churns out 284 PS of maximum power and 347 Nm of peak torque. It is available with a 6-speed manual transmission and 3.45 axle ratio. The second option is the 2.0L T-GDi turbocharged petrol unit that develops out 272 PS and 400 Nm of torque. It comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission. As stated in our previous reports, an engine start-stop system is standard in the new generation Jeep Wrangler.
The turbocharged petrol engine can be expected in India. Our market is likely to get even the 2.2-litre MultiJet II diesel engine that produces 200 PS and 450 Nm of torque. This engine comes paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
