The American SUV maker who is currently under the Fiat umbrella will be bringing its Wrangler and flagship Grand Cherokee SUVs in the last quarter of 2013.
Fiat has the Ranjangoan facility at its disposal since the production of Tata Manza which was taking place there moved out a couple of months ago.
However we expect the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee to enter India via CBU route initially until the Indian facility is equipped to assemble them. And that is when the all important Jeep B Segment SUV will drive in as well.
Regular Indian Autos Blog readers will know that Jeep's B Segment SUV will share the Small Wide platform with Fiat's 500X and will enter production in 2014 at Fiat's extensively renovated plant at Melfi, Italy. As per Jeep's roadmap in India, the B Segment SUV will be launched here in 2015.
Motorbash.com reports that the compact SUV will be powered by Fiat's range of compact engines, the 1.4 litre T-Jet turbo petrol and the 1.6 litre turbo diesel. The T-Jet is already available in the Linea and localizing the 1.6 litre Multijet won't be an issue given the fact that the 1.3 litre MultiJet is heavily localized.
The Jeep B Segment SUV is expected to be locally assembled with the CKD kits coming from Melfi. Jeep can take advantage of the localized engines and transmissions to have a competitive price tag for their entry level SUV, which would carry the marque's iconic off road credentials.
