Rumors about a Jaguar SUV have been doing rounds for about a year. Early reports suggest that Jaguar has registered the names 'Jaguar XQ' and 'Jaguar Q-Type' and these could be possible names for Jag's first ever SUV.
Autoweek's sources indicate that Jaguar would show the SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which opens for the media on September 10. It is not mentioned however if Jaguar would present a design sketch, a concept or the actual platform/chassis of the SUV. We are confident that the production spec SUV would not be shown as the company will have to preview a concept first and get the overall feedback, since they have never done something like it before.
The SUV could share its platform with Jaguar's new entry level sedan (referred to as the Jaguar 3 Series rival). It is believed that both the SUV and the small sedan would use a shortened version of the XJ's aluminium platform.
The Jaguar SUV is expected to reach the market in 2016. The compact sedan is also expected in showrooms around the same time. The SUV segment and the entry level luxury sedan segment are witnessing strong growth, especially in China. Needless to say, both these models would be India bound soon after the global launch.
