Nobody could deny the fact that China is one of the most important car markets in the world and hence it can righteously command tailor made products from mainline car manufacturers.

There are umpteen examples of China specific cars that are made by giants like VW, GM, etc,. Even luxury car makers offer extended wheelbase versions of their cars exclusive to Chinese market. Hyundai is working on a China specific mid size sedan that could slot between the narrow gap that exists between the Sonata and the Elantra.

To be built by Chinese JV Beijing-Hyundai, the mid size sedan is speculated to be showcased at 2014 Beijing Auto Show but given the production readiness of the test mules spotted, the car could take a public bow as early as this year’s Shanghai Motor show.

The new mid size sedan from Hyundai which is yet to be unnamed is expected to employ 1.8 litre and 2.0 litre petrol engines. The car appears to be adopting the Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy like its Sonata and Elantra siblings.

It’s not uncommon for the car makers to have a closely positioned and confusing product portfolio in China and same is the case with the new mid size sedan from China. For some peculiar reasons, the strategy seems to work there!
