The Hyundai Santro has gone on sale in Pakistan once again. Note that this is not the Santro Xing, but the pre-Xing (first ever) Santro which came with clear lens headlights and taillights (in India it was called the Santro ZipDrive).
An advertisement in a local newspaper says that the 'evergreen' Santro is available for a limited time only. This is because Dewan Motors, the manufacturer of Hyundai cars in Paksitan, has only a few hundred kits of the Santro (the Santro in Pakistan is made from CKD kits) which it has now assembled at its Sujawal plant.
The Santro you see here was not available with the 1.1-liter engine, but with a 1.0-liter four-cylinder Epsilon engine producing 61 hp and matched to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Santro will compete with the Wagon R, which was recently launched in Pakistan. However, the Wagon R sold in Pakistan is far more modern than the Santro given that it uses the K-Series engine seen on the Indian version, and is based on a newer platform.
The Santro set the ball rolling for the Korean manufacturer in India, and despite being over 16 years old, Hyundai India manages to find 3,300 customers for the hatchback every month.
