Hyundai will commence sales of the Hyundai ix25 mini SUV in China from October 9, according to confirmation received from Beijing-Hyundai by a Chinese auto website. The ix25 was world premiered in April this year at the 2014 Auto China which took place in Beijing. However, the interiors of the car are pending an official unveiling.
The ix25 measures 4,270 mm in length, 1,780 mm in width, 1,630 mm in height and 2,590 mm in wheelbase. Early reports indicate that the car will launch with 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engines, with six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. Hyundai on their part have not released engine or gearbox details. Production of the ix25 for China will be handled by the Beijing Hyundai joint venture.
In India, Hyundai have confirmed the launch of a compact SUV next year. The compact SUV earmarked for India would be the ix25, though Hyundai India have never specifically stated it. For India, the ix25 could be powered by the same set of engines used on the Verna, sport changes in the color and quality of the interior, ground clearance and the wear exterior accessories.
The ix25 will compete with the Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and Nissan Terrano in India. Recent launches in the urban SUV segment (Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano) together sell about 11,500 units every month.
