Will be exclusive to the Indonesian market, as of now.
According to a set of leaked posters posted by our colleagues at Autonetmagz, Hyundai will soon announce a beefed-up version of the compact Grand i10 hatchback in Indonesia. Dubbed as the Hyundai Grand i10X, it features the characteristic pseudo-crossover upgrades usually seen in the segment.
Given that the Hyundai i20 Active and the Elite i20 isn't sold in Indonesia, Hyundai Indonesia decided to base their idea of a pseudo-crossover on one of their most popular offerings - the Grand i10.
The Grand i10 hatchback is not manufactured anywhere but in India (the European i10 differs vastly in specification, and is made in Turkey), and any variant or derivation of it has to be supplied from the Chennai plant, which brings about a realistic possibility of domestic retail. That said, HMIL exports over 1,000 unique variants of the 10 models it makes in Chennai to 120 countries.
The Hyundai Grand i10X comes with extended black plastic lower bumpers with skid plates, fog lamps with a strip of LED DRLs, plastic side extensions, a chrome exhaust tip, a slightly revised C-Pillar and a roof spoiler.
Although most of the dimensions revealed in the poster are exactly identical to the standard hatchback, Hyundai haven't revealed the ground clearance, which could be increased to suit its rugged appeal.
The only interior change is the steering wheel that features a silver bezel ornament. Otherwise it's the standard design that is equipped with a console mounted gear shift lever, integrated 2-DIN MP3 player with 4 speakers, USB and AUX-IN ports, driver seat height adjustment, smart key with push button start, cooled glovebox and 256 liters of boot space.
Power is sourced from a 1.2L Kappa dual VTVT petrol engine that generates 83 PS at 6,000 rpm and 116 Nm at 4,000 RPM. As seen in the poster, it is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission only.
The Hyundai Grand i10X will be priced at Rp 155,500,000 (INR 7.46 lakhs) which puts it between the entry level Grand i10 GL and GLS. Apparently, it is the first ever hatchback-based crossover and, if successful, opens up a new segment in Indonesia.
