The next generation 2014 Hyundai i10 for European markets was unveiled today at the IAA 2013.

Hyundai has only taken five years to replace the i10 which re-enters a more competitive A-Segment. As per Hyundai, the 2014 i10’s virtues are its generous equipment list, functionality and space, fresh design, refined ride and a silent cabin. Hyundai adds that that the new i10 would offer the highest level of safety and comfort for its class.

Features that are shown on the demo car at the Frankfurt Motor Show are auto climate control, heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control with speed limiter, electronic stability control and front curtain airbags (to be a standard feature).

Based on a new platform, the 2014 i10 is 80mm longer, 65mm wider and 50mm lower than its predecessor. Its boot space stands at 252 liters, a best in class figure. Its wheelbase is 5mm longer, and that Hyundai claims, gives the i10 the segment-best interior space.

The new i10 was designed and developed at the company’s Europe Technical Centre in Russelsheim, Germany. The European production of the vehicle has been shifted from Chennai, India to Izmit, Turkey where the capacity has been expanded to 200,000 cars a year. As Hyundai wishes to build more cars in regions where it sells them, the relocation was approved. Production has already started in Izmit.

Market would be very tiny – max 100 cars pan India sale.
Fully loaded i10 with european specs would cost Rs 8 lacs ex showroom. Indian buyer at that price point will go for a desire or an amaze. One can customise the top end Indian model with pure leather seats and steering wheel for under Rs 40k for both, sunroof for 20k, navigation for 35k. What you will miss out would be 6 speed auto, 6 airbags, cruise control. (I have cruise control on my beemer and never used it- is a waste in India), the extra noise insulation etc…

Toyta sells Innova in Thailand / Malaysia/ASEAN with auto box. navigation, cruise control, pure leather seats and bigger tyres but even the overpriced top end Innova on road 18lacs sold in India doesn’t have it… I am waiting for Hyundai 7/8 seater to come and knock the socks off Toyota….

i always think why such all-feature-enriched small cars not launched in india? definitely there are people who only need a diesel small car, but with sunroof, surround airbags, cruise, 6 speed auto, full leather, navigation etc.. that too from value car manufacturers like hyundai, suzuki etc.. That would be a new segment created just like of high end new segments of A-class..
