According to several senior Hyundai India employees, an automatic transmission will be offered on the Hyundai Grand i10 diesel. The transmission in question would be a four-speed automatic unit and prices could range from INR 7.5 to INR 9.5 lakhs. This will make the Grand i10 the most affordable diesel automatic car in the country.
These are the claims made by Motoring magazine on its Facebook page today.
Hyundai India can be credited with launching the most affordable diesel automatic car in the past as well. The previous generation Verna diesel (post facelift model) came with a 4-speed automatic gearbox and even the current Verna diesel sports a 4-speed AT. In fact, the Verna diesel EX AT is currently the most affordable diesel automatic car money can buy at INR 10.34 lakhs (ex-Showroom, New Delhi), after which comes the Mahindra Scorpio VLX AT priced at 11.73 lakhs (ex-Showroom, New Delhi).
Motoring reports that the 1.1-liter U2 three-cylinder diesel engine would continue producing 69 bhp and 15.6 kgm of torque. There is no mention as to the number of variants the auto transmission would be offered in, though we estimate at least two variants to feature this auto box.
The Grand i10 petrol is also available only with a 5-speed manual transmission currently, and the 4-speed auto box will be introduced in November. Sales of the Grand i10 diesel automatic is expected to commence in late November or early December.
