First launched in November 2013.
Hyundai has announced that the Hyundai Genesis sedan has crossed the 100,000 sales mark in 18 months, much sooner than the first generation model. The Genesis represents Hyundai's first foray into the luxury car segment that is dominated by German brands.
According to Hyundai, nearly half of the 105,915 units produced were sold in its home country of South Korea (52,661 units), while the other half (53,254 units) was exported to markets like the Chinese, European, Middle East, and North American.
Manufactured solely in South Korea, the North American-spec Genesis packs a 311hp 3.8-liter V6 or a 420hp 5.0-liter V8, while the European model only gets the V6 engine. It's only offered with a 8-speed automatic transmission that either drives the rear wheels, or all wheels in the V8 model.
An Indian launch is not completely ruled out, as HMIL had showcased the model at the 2014 APS, and the RHD unit was then spotted in Chennai. If launched, it will compete established models like the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C Class and Audi A4.
