Petrol Elite i20 in demand.
Hyundai started the pre-launch bookings for the Elite i20 on August 1 and launched the car yesterday. The company has received over 4,600 pre-launch bookings for the hatchback, of which 2,600 are for the petrol variants and 2,000 for the diesel variant.
The company aims to sell about 6,000 units each month of the Elite i20, and expects petrol and diesel variants to contribute equally to this. The outgoing i20 managed monthly sales of about 3,800 units, Mr. Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice president for sales and marketing at Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) said.
While Hyundai did not launch an automatic transmission on the Elite i20 yesterday, such a variant will be available on the petrol trim, and the company will reveal the price for it later on.
The previous generation i20 (for the first few years) was exported to European markets from India. However the new i20 for Europe will be made at Hyundai's plant in Turkey, which also makes the new i10 (Grand i10 in India). HMIL said it would consider exporting the India-made Elite i20 to markets such as Latin America, Asia, Middle East and Australia.
