HMSI is yet to officially confirm the Honda XRE300 for India.
A report on Gaadiwaadi claims that the Honda XRE300 has been patented in the country. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd has confirmed four new products in the financial year 2016-17. Two of these are set to be motorcycles while two will be scooters.
The Honda XRE300 is a competitor to the upcoming BMW G310GS and promised KTM Adventure 390. Powering the Honda XRE300 is a 291.6 cc single cylinder, DOHC, air-cooled mill coupled to a 5-speed gearbox. The engine is capable of producing 25.4 hp of power at 7,500 rpm and 27 Nm of torque at 6,000 rpm and is coupled to a 5-speed gearbox.
While the output is not on par with the German motorcycle, Honda India will have to come up with other ways to make the motorcycle look convincing. Honda’s build quality and refinement will no doubt be the USPs.
On sale in Brazil since 2009, the Honda XRE300 gets a 21-inch wheel up front and an 18-inch unit in the rear. The high seat height of 860 mm though may turn out to be a major con for the motorcycle. The Honda will also be offering ABS in the motorcycle.
The Honda XRE300, if launched, could cost about INR 2.5 lakhs.
