First BS-IV-compliant product by HMSI.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), the second largest two wheeler manufacturer in India, launched the Honda CB Hornet 160R a few days ago. In an interview with Economic Times, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing of the HMSI, has said that the company will soon start exporting the Hornet 160R to South America.
HMSI is expected to produce 4.6 million two-wheelers in the current fiscal year and it has a 57 percent market share in the scooter segment and 15 percent of the motorcycle market. In 2016-17 fiscal year, the company's production volume is expected to expand by 15 percent, which is 5.3 million units, though the market is estimated to grow only by 3-5 percent. This will be aided by a series of launches the company has planned for the next calendar year, and the opening of the Gujarat plant early next year.
Compared to the millions of units the Japanese brand rolls out in India every year, only about 1,80,000 two wheelers are exported. Guleria added in the interview, "our first focus is the domestic market, and we will enhance export only if the local demand falls".
