After its split with Honda which happened over two years ago, Hero Motocorp is ready to introduce its own, independently developed engines, in new products starting next year.
Anil Dua, senior vice-president for marketing and sales, Hero Motocorp, confirmed this development to Business Standard saying that the company has already "successfully" tested three engines which will be introduced in some of their products next year. While he did not share the segments these engines would be offered in, Business Standard reports that these engines are of 100cc, 110cc and 250cc in displacement.
Hero will also offer their first fully-developed product (their fully self-developed product) in 2014, which we think could be shown at the 2014 Auto Expo. While Hero has license to use products from Honda until 2017, the company would like to have their self-developed products launching by 2016 itself.
On October 10th, Hero revealed 15 of their updated products that would be launched in the market over the next six months. Given that the brand had promised 50 new models in three years in 2011, Pawan Munjal, Hero Motocorp's CEO and MD, says that there are 35 more products to come.
As for Hero's sales target this festive season, the company sold 1.1 million units in October and November last year and expects to see that number increase this year.
