The Hero HX 250R, which is likely to be launched in the Indian market in the next few months, is reported to come with a first-in-class dual-riding modes. The riders can select between two modes – ‘City’ and ‘Sports’ - for either better mileage or punchy performance.
The HX 250R is reported to get a DMFi (Dual Mode Fuel Injection) system with two different ECU maps for the two modes. The motorcycle is powered by a newly-developed 249 cc single cylinder water-cooled unit making 31 hp of max power and 26 Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a multi-plate wet clutch. Hero has developed this engine without any technical assistance from its former partner Honda.
The sporty bike, which was first previewed before the Delhi Auto Expo last year, has been designed and engineered jointly with Hero's technology collaborator Erik Buell Racing, AVL and Engines Engineering. The HX 250R stands on an all-new lightweight Geodesic Tubular Frame and weighs just 149 kg. It is claimed to hit 0-100 km/h in 9 seconds.
The bike’s suspension setup consists of a traditional telescopic fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear, with the shock mounted on the left of the motorcycle to shorten the wheelbase. It also boasts a 300 mm disc brake up front and a 220 mm disc brake at the rear, working in tandem with a combined braking system with optional ABS, similar to Honda’s Combi Brake System.
The Hero HX250R is likely to be manufactured at the company’s Neemrana plant in Rajasthan. It is expected to be priced at around INR 1.6 lakh and would compete the likes of KTM RC 200, Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS, Hyosung GD250R, and Honda CBR250R. Hero also plans to export the high-performance bike to South American and African markets, and has already showcased it in Europe and USA.
