Employs a rebored version of the 1199 Panigale's powerhouse.
The brutal Ducati 1299 Panigale, the new flagship superbike from Bologna, has been unveiled at the EICMA 2014 in Milan, Italy today.
The 1299 Panigale is instantly recognizable yet features a wider fairing, larger windscreen, in addition to a new tailpiece and comfier seats compared to the 1199 Panigale. Ducati says that the steering head angle has been tweaked and the fork pivot is lowered by 4 mm in order to achieve better agility and rear traction.
The heart of the new Panigale is a 1,285 cc L-Twin engine which is a rebored version of the 1199 Panigale's unit. The motor belts out a mental 205 hp at 10,500 rpm and 144 Nm of torque at 8,750 rpm.
This engine will be featured in the Panigale and Panigale S variants while the Panigale R will continue to be a 1199 model in order to be eligible for the World Superbike Championship. The R too produces 205 hp but the torque output is slightly lower.
A wet multiplate slipper clutch mates a 6-speed transmission to the potent powerhouse. Like its predecessor, the 1299 Panigale S is equipped with semi active Ohlins Smart EC suspension system which comprises of the USD telescopic fork (front) and a monoshock (rear).
The myriad of electronic systems include the IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit), ABS, DWC, DTC, Cornering ABS, DDA+ (GPS compatible), EBC, DQS, and so on.
