Nissan India will expand the Redi-GO lineup with the launch of the Datsun Redi-GO AMT early next year reports Autocar India. This new information is in agreement with a report from June claiming the AMT variant(s) of the Redi-GO will arrive before the end of the current fiscal year.
As per Autocar India, the Datsun Redi-GO AMT will arrive towards the end of January 2018. It will be equipped with the same 5-speed AMT as the Renault Kwid. The gearbox will be mated to the 1.0 L engine that powers the Datsun Redi-GO 1.0.
The Renault Kwid AMT features a rotary gear selector knob and does with a manual gear change option. It will be interesting to see whether Datsun goes for a similar arrangement or opts for a more conventional gear selector stick.
Visually, the AMT variant will be identical to the manual variant. Datsun might add a badge on the boot lid to denote the presence of an automatic transmission.
A 999 cc three-cylinder petrol engine, that made its debut on the Renault Kwid in August 2016 and in July 2017 in Redi-GO's case, will power the Redi-GO AMT. It puts out 68 PS @ 5,500 RPM and 91 Nm @ 4,250 RPM.
