CarWale has spotted the Chevrolet Essentia compact sedan on test on the streets of Pune, ahead of its market launch announced to take place next year. This is the first time that the Essentia has been spied testing, though the next-gen Chevrolet Beat, the hatchback on which the Essentia is based, has been spotted multiple times.

The Chevrolet Essentia will be manufactured at GM India's Talegaon facility from 2017.

As mentioned above, the Essentia is based on the next-gen India-spec Chevrolet Beat, which in itself traces its platform to the current Chevrolet Beat which has been on sale since January 2010. At the Auto Expo unveiling of the Chevrolet Essentia, GM India did not announce any specification(s), merely stating that the compact sedan will carry its 5 occupants and luggage "without any compromise to style".

On the inside, the Chevrolet Essentia gets an updated version of the motorcycle-inspired instrument cluster seen on the current Beat. The cluster has an analogue speedometer and a LCD/LED display for the tachometer, tripmeter, odometer and other driver information systems.
