After appearing on the BMW India's website in August 2018, the BMW M2 Competition, the first in line in the India-bound 2 Series range of models, has gone on sale at an ex-showroom price of INR 79.90 lakh.
The BMW M2 Competition is the top-spec model in the 2 Series range. It is the successor of the M2 Coupe and looks slightly different owing to the many performance-oriented changes it carries. The new model is available in five exterior colours: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Long Beach Blue, Sunset Orange and Hockenheim Silver.
The front-end of the M2 Competition features an enlarged version of the signature kidney grille and an updated apron with bigger air vents. In the side profile, it features new M-spec ORVMs, new 19-inch forged alloy wheels and a grey finish on the brake callipers for the large disc rotors. The highlight of the rear is a set of distinct quad tailpipes and an M Competition badge.
On the inside, there are M2 Competition insignias on the door sills. The dashboard houses a revised instrument cluster that displays the car's logo for a few seconds. Another highlight is the red engine start/stop button, which comes from the sixth-gen BMW M5. The M Sport seats feature an illuminated M2 logo at shoulder height.
Powering the BMW M2 Competition is a 3.0-litre bi-turbo inline six-cylinder petrol engine that outputs 410 PS at 5,250-7,000 rpm along with a peak torque of 550 Nm at 2,350-5,200 rpm. The motor comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddle shifters. There are three driving modes on offer - Comfort, Sport and Sport+. The car offers an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 9.4 km/l with CO2 emissions of 223 g/km.
The BMW M2 Competition can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. That said, the optional M Driver's package caps the maximum speed at 280 km/h.
BMW India is also expected to launch the M5 Competition in the near future.
