Among the many launches planned by BMW India this year, the BMW 7 Series ActiveHybrid is reported to launch in June. The ActiveHybrid will be the first ever hybrid vehicle for BMW in India, or for any premium brand for that matter. Rather than contributing to sales, the ActiveHybrid 7 will be more of a brand showcasing product.
Power for the 7 Series Hybrid will come from a 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder petrol engine with BMW's Twin Power Turbo technology. The engine outputs 320 hp at 5,800 rpm and 450 Nm of torque between 1,300-4,500 rpm. The engine is paired to an electric motor capable of producing 55 hp and 210 Nm of torque. The combined system output of the engine and motor stands at 354 hp.
The drive is transmitted to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. In EU tests, the ActiveHybrid 7 achieves 14.7 km/l with CO2 emissions of 158 g/km. The sedan can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and has an electronically limited top-speed of 250 km/h.
The 7 ActiveHybrid will be positioned below the flagship 760 Li in India. Other 7 Series variants sold in India include 730 Ld, 740 Li and 750 Li. The 7 Series range in India starts at INR 97.5 lakhs and goes up to INR 1.78 crores, ex-Showroom.
