Four door coupes and fastbacks are catching the fantasy of India's elite and that's evident from the increasing number of Audi A7s roaming the streets of metros.
BMW has a viable A7 competitor in the form of the 6 Series Gran Coupe and it seems the Bavarian outfit is all set to bring this 4-door coupe to India. The Gran Coupe which was being driven in Delhi with trade certificate plates suggests just that.
BMW had launched variants of the new 6 Series last October while the convertible is here since March 2011. We can expect the Gran Coupe to be launched some time soon.
The Gran Coupe looks almost similar to the coupe version expect that the roof line runs a wee bit longer before swooping downward to blend with the boot thereby facilitating the accommodation of the rear doors.
There is no difference in the front fascia but the rear of the Gran Coupe has few noticeable changes. The twin exhaust tips are circular while the 6 Series Coupe adopts quadrilateral shape for the exhaust tips. Also the Gran Coupe gives a miss to the brake light strip that is found on the edge of Coupe's boot lid.
The model spotted is a 640d which is powered by 3.o litre diesel engine. It produces 313 bhp in the Coupe which is good for a 5.5 second 0-100 kmph run. The range topping version is expected to be the 650i which belts out 407 horses and has a 0-10o kmph time of just 4.9 seconds.
The BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe will take the fight to the Mercedes CLS and the Audi A7 right form the day one.
