The genius marketers at BMW pulled yet another amazing trick out of their heart when they decided to split the 3 Series line-up into four door sedan and coupe/ convertible.
The four door sedan will retain its nametag as the 3 Series, whereas the coupe and convertible will move higher up the premium ladder to be known as the 4 Series. After being unveiled earlier this year, BMW 4 Series is also being showcased at the ongoing 2013 Tokyo Motor Show.
Here we have a convertible avatar of the 4 Series which shares its platform with the coupe cousin. This means that the 4 Series convertible is slightly longer and wider than its 3 Series predecessor and in some configuration a little bit lighter too.
The new sporty design is amassed with a massive kidney grille, hexagonal headlights, huge air intake and Hofmeister kink. The three-piece folding metal roof can be raised or lowered in 20 seconds.
To tackle the problem of wind noise, the bavarian automaker has installed what it calls a "noise-absorbing" headliner that helps make the 4 Series Convertible's cabin quieter at high speeds with the roof down.
Three engines are available on launch
- The 420d Convertible (184 hp)
- The 428i Convertible (245 hp)
- The 435i Convertible (306 hp)
All engines are mated to an 8-speed ZF Sport automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted shifter paddles.
The 4 Series Convertible will be offered in three variants - Sport Line, Luxury Line and M Sport trims and will be available in showrooms shortly after the motor show.
