Just yesterday, we brought you a very interesting story about a new body style in BMW’s 3 Series family. BMW has dropped a bucket load of information on the new 3 Series GT. Here is all you need to know about the 3-Series GT -
- It is the third variant of the 3 Series family (after the sedan and touring) and the largest so far. It is 4,824mm long, 1,828mm wide, 1,489mm tall and rides on a 2,920mm wheelbase
- It is somewhere between the sedan and touring wagon derivatives but offers more practicality because the 520 litre boot is 40 litres more than the sedan and 25 litres more than the touring.
- With the 40:20:40 split rear seats down, the luggage area expands to a whopping 1,600 litres
- Legroom has been improved by 70mm making it more spacious than its elder sister, the 5 Series.
- Design wise, the front end receives a bigger kidney grille, bolder headlights and larger intakes. The side profile looks very chiseled due to the coupe-style sloping roofline. The rear beefs up to feature a high bootlid and broad L-shaped LED tail-lights.
- Not much has changed to the interior. The dashboard is sourced from the sedan but an elevated driving position (59mm higher to be precise) makes sure that the driver gets better visibility.
- It will be offered with all powertrains available in the sedan and touring variants. These are,
- 2L TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel with 143 hp and 320 Nm of torque
- 2L TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel with 184 hp and 380 Nm of torque
- 2L TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder with 184 hp and 270 Nm of torque
- 2L TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder with 245 hp and 350 Nm of torque
- 3L TwinPower Turbo inline-six cylinder with 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque
- It will be offered with both RWD and xDrive AWD systems.
- Six-speed manual gearbox is offered as standard and the eight-speed automatic is an option.
- Like the sedan, there are three variants on offer - Sport Line, Luxury Line, Modern Line, and M Sport in 12 paint finishes
- M Sport models feature an aerodynamic body kit, a lowered and stiffened suspension, a chunkier steering wheel and some other styling bits.
