BMW is experimenting with niche product segments as evident from the 4 Series Coupe Concept, which is essentially a 3 Series with a louder style statement and a tinge of extra exclusivity.
In similar lines, the Bavarian marque is attempting to plug the gap between the 1 Series and the 3 Series by introducing the 2 Series Coupe and Convertible versions. The 2 Series in nothing but a glorified and stylized 1 Series, lacking doors or a roof, with extra oomph under the bonnet, which would appeal to young buyers.
Bmw.syndikat.de presents us with spy shots of the 2 Series Coupe which is codenamed F22 and boy have they caught the big fish! With 18" alloy wheels and blue brake calipers, the heavily camouflaged test mules appears to be the 'M' version which could be called as the M235i.
The website reports that the M235i could be powered by BMW's six-cylinder TwinPower turbo engine which could breathe out 320 PS of power. The car's intricate design details cannot be ascertained from the spyshots, however the rear gets two tail pipes one at each end.
The interior is also completely camouflaged but a 3 Series style steering wheel and the gear knob which communicates with BMW's M spec 8-speed Sport automatic transmission are visible. A new and updated i-Drive is expected to be offered along with a fresh dashboard design.
