Introduced at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show last November, the BMW 1 Series Sedan is now on sale in China. The compact luxury sedan starts at CNY 2,04,800 (INR 19,90,104.9).
The BMW 1 Series Sedan is available in three models: 118i, 120i and 125i, and in five different configurations. LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual exhausts, panoramic glass roof, 8.8-inch infotainment system with navigation and iDrive touch knob and colour head-up display are some of the key features of the compact sedan.
The BMW 1 Series Sedan is underpinned by the company's UKL front-wheel drive platform. It measures 4,456 mm in length, 1,803 mm in width and 1,446 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,670 mm. The BMW 118i base model is powered by the 1.5-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 100 kW (136 hp) and 220 Nm of torque. This engine is linked to a 6-speed tiptronic automatic transmission.
The BMW 120i packs the 2.0-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 141 kW (192 hp) and 280 Nm of torque. At the top of the range is the BMW 125i with the same 2.0-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, but producing 231 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Both the 120i and 125i get the 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission as standard.
The BMW 1 Series Sedan is manufactured by the BMW Group and BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture in Tiexi, Shenyang in China. It's currently a China-only model, but BMW could launch it in Brazil and possibly several other emerging markets.
