Benelli India has confirmed that it will upgrade one of its popular models, the TNT 600i, to conform to BS-VI emission norms so that it can continue sales after March 2020.

Speaking to Autocar India, Benelli India’s Managing Director, Vikas Jhabakh, said that the TNT600i has been a crown jewel of the company’s portfolio. Jhabakh said:

The TNT 600i has always been the crown jewel of our portfolio and has always been the strongest product ever since its launch. This continues even today, as we see a strong following for the TNT 600i across the country.

Jhabakh had stated in an interview last year that the company has discontinued the TNT 899 and 1130. He also added that the company has no plans to bring back the 600 GT and TNT 25 to the Indian market. Do note that the TNT 899 and 1130 had made their debut along with the 600i. The 600i was briefly discontinued before it was reintroduced in December last year at INR 6.20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The 600i is the most affordable in-line four-cylinder motorcycle in the Indian market. Its 600 cc inline-four cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with DOHC and 16 valves delivers 85 PS of peak power at 11,500 rpm and 54.6 Nm of maximum torque at 10,500 rpm. The motor comes paired with a six-speed gearbox.

The feature list includes upside-down telescopic forks at the front and an asymmetrically mounted monoshock suspension at the back. Twin discs at the front and a single disc at the back shed speed while the safety net includes by ABS. The naked roadster rides on 120/70-ZR17 front and 180/55-ZR17 rear tyres.

Price for the motorcycle will witness an increase post the BS-VI upgrade but Benelli India will target to keep the raise minimal.

In more updates, Benelli India plans to introduce five products in 2019. The next product to arrive from the Chinese owned Italian motorcycle brand will be the Leoncino 500. A report from earlier today stated that the company would launch only the standard variant. It may consider the Trail variant if the demand looks promising.
