Ather Energy has listed a new, Eco riding mode for its electric scooters on its website. Do note that the products already had an Eco mode (when we tested the vehicle in June last year) which could be turned ON or OFF via the touch screen instrument console. The Eco mode, back then, was also claimed to return 75 km per full charge.

The Bangalore-based electric vehicle manufacturer currently offers Sport and Ride mode in its scooters. The Sport mode gives access to all the 20.5 Nm of torque in the 450, while the top speed is limited at 80 km/h. The Ride mode lowers the torque output and the top speed for an extended range. The new Eco mode will further reduce the top speed for an even longer range. Check out the numbers in the table below:

Riding Mode Sport Ride Eco
TrueRange 55 km 65 km 75 km
Top Speed 80 km/h 65 km/h 45 km/h

The new Eco mode is listed as "Coming Soon" on the company’s website, and it will most likely arrive via an OTA update. The buyers in Chennai should get the scooter with the Eco mode right from the showroom.

The flagship product from the company, the 450, boasts a 0-40 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds. The 340, on the other hand, can achieve a max speed of 70 km/h and go from 0-40 km/h in 5.1 seconds.

A recent OTA update brought new features to the electric scooters. The list of features added via the OTA update include Guide-me-home light, new precautionary notifications, reduced the minimum brightness, tyre pressure info (not to be mistaken as tyre pressure monitoring system) and a revised screen layout.

In more updates, the company has confirmed that it will commence the pre-bookings in Chennai from 9 July. Ather Energy has already set up seven charging points in Chennai. The total charging outlets will reach up to 55 stations by the end of the year. Other electric four- and two-wheelers in Chennai can use the charging stations free-of-cost until the end of the year. The exercise targets to attract the attention of potential buyers in the city.
