The all-new Maruti Ertiga was launched in India yesterday in petrol and diesel engine variants. However, a petrol-CNG option is in the business plan, and its launch will take place within six months.
Sources have told Autocar India that Maruti Suzuki is in the process of fine-tuning the all-new Maruti Ertiga’s K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine with CNG. The petrol-CNG engine will likely feature the dual-battery Smart Hybrid mild-hybrid system. Reports just days before the launch of the second generation model said that the demand of the outgoing model with a factory-fitted CNG kit had spiked recently with the general expectation that a CNG option is unlikely in the former at launch.
The 2018 Maruti Ertiga measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,735 mm in width and 1,690 mm in height. It is 99 mm longer, 40 mm wider and 5 mm taller than its predecessor. The wheelbase (2,740 mm) has remained unchanged. Its K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 77 kW (104.7 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm. Compared to the K14B 1.4-litre petrol engine it replaces, the maximum power and the maximum torque are 13% and 6% higher respectively. It is coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The diesel engine is the ubiquitous D13A 1.3-litre, now featuring the dual-battery Smart Hybrid mild-hybrid system. This engine develops 66 kW (89.74 PS) at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. It is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard.
ARAI has given the redesigned urban MPV a fuel economy rating of 19.34 km/l (petrol-MT)/18.69 km/l (petrol-AT)/25.47 km/l (diesel-MT).
