After the XSR155, Yamaha is working on a dual-purpose WR155 motorcycle, which will share its underpinnings with the YZF-R15 V3.0. Thus, the WR155 will use the company’s tried and tested Deltabox frame. The sub-frame is likely to receive changes to match the dual-purpose character of the motorcycle.

The engine specifications will be identical to the YZF-R15 V3.0 and the XSR155, and the WR155 will draw power from a 155 cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor with 4-valve and Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. The power mill of the YZF-R15 V3.0 churns out 19.3 PS at 10,000 rpm and 14.7 Nm at 8,500 rpm, and the figures are not likely to be much different on the WR155. Yamaha may tweak the gear-ratio for the dual-purpose motorcycle.
Hardware specifications for the international-spec WR155 will include inverted front forks. Given the WR155’s dual-purpose character, the motorcycle will most likely get a longer travel rating for the suspension setup. Anchoring department will comprise single discs on both wheels while the ABS tech, unlike on the YZF-R15 V3.0, is likely to be switchable.
The dual-purpose motorcycle styling cues will include a tall-set front fender along with a LED headlight on the front fascia. The lean fuel tank and saddle will offer plenty of room to move around while off-roading. The seat height will be on the taller side due to the increased ground clearance, and thus short riders may face some trouble. The exhaust will be high set for improved ground clearance and better water wading prowess.
The new motorcycle will have a larger front wheel with a 21-inch diameter for better off-road handling. The wire-spoke wheels will use dual-purpose, knobby tyres for enhanced traction over loose surfaces such as gravel and mud. The motorcycle will be street legal, and thus come equipped with rear-view mirrors, blinkers and a taillight.

Along with the WR155 name, Yamaha has applied a patent application for a 'WR155R' model as well, thus hinting that the 155 cc WR model will be sold in two variants. The official unveiling is not expected to take place anytime soon.
