Folks at HDT Customs have customised a Jawa Forty-Two to make it touring ready. The motorcycle rode into the workshop with aftermarket auxiliary lights and a smartphone mount, but it required more updates to carry luggage and offer windblast protection.

For starters, HDT Customs gave the motorcycle a better seat padding for enhanced comfort on long distance rides. The aftermarket saddle is wider than the stock unit. The revised ergonomics have been achieved with the use of a handlebar that is sourced from UM Commando that gives the Forty-Two more upright riding position. The windscreen, too, comes from the UM Commando to offer better windblast protection.
The pillion backrest and luggage rack at the rear is custom built units from HDT Customs, but you can buy similar setup from the list of official accessories from Classic Legends. The list of official accessories includes crash guards, pillion backrest and a luggage rack among others, although there are no touring specific extras available yet.
The owner of the Jawa Forty-Two also owns a Royal Enfield Himalayan and has a pair of panniers from Royal Enfield. To shuffle the panniers between the two bikes, he asked HDT Customs to carve mounts for the Jawa that are compatible with Royal Enfield luggage accessory.
The mechanical specifications have been retained and the Jawa Forty-Two continues to use the 293 cc liquid-cooled, DOHC engine with fuel injection system. The single-cylinder motor makes 27.37 PS of power and 28 Nm of peak torque. The addition of touring spec accessories would have added to the weight. The stock Forty-Two, for reference, weighs 170 kg (kerb). The added weight would also affect the fuel economy. The standard bike returns an ARAI-certified fuel economy of 37.5 km/l.
