The motorcycle pays tribute to /5 series products - R 50/5, R 60/5 and R 75/5. In terms of styling, the BMW R nineT /5 edition comes with a Lupine Blue metallic paint with smoke effect. The fuel tank gets a double line marking, which bears the anniversary emblem, along with kneepads. The chrome treatment for the exhaust manifold and rear silencer and the rear mirrors enhance the retro-styling of the motorcycle.

Other styling upgrades include a double seat that is contoured in the style of the /5 with cross-embossing on the cover and a grab strap. The R nineT /5 also gets heated grips as standard. The coating of the fork slider tubes, wheel hubs, engine, gearbox, and the spokes in aluminium silver, along with the black frame and the propeller shaft casing, also draw inspiration from the /5 models.

The white piping on the 43 mm conventional telescopic fork along with gaiters adds an old-school look to the R nineT /5. The rear uses the BMW Paralever to perform the shock absorption tasks. For reference, the standard R nineT comes with upside-down telescopic front forks, while the Scrambler and Racer variants use traditional units.

The instrument cluster on the modern motorcycle gets an analogue speedometer display and integrated indicator lamps while the rest of the information is available on an LCD screen.

Mechanical specifications have been carried forward from the standard BMW R nineT model and propelling tasks are performed by a 1,170 cc air/oil-cooled, Boxer flat twin, 4-stroke engine with four valves per cylinder makes peak power of 110 hp at 7,750 rpm and max torque of 116 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox.

The wire-spoke wheels on the R nineT /5 enhance the retro styling. The motorcycle rides on 17-inch wheels on both ends. The safety net of ABS and Automatic Stability Control comes as standard, while the stopping power comes from 320 mm dual discs at the front and a 265 mm single disc at the rear.
