Kapil Shelke, CEO, Tork Motors, confirmed in a recent interview that the Tork T6X will be launched towards the end of 2019. The factory where it will be made, located in Chakan (Maharashtra), is still under construction. This facility will have a production capacity of 20,000 units per annum and will be ready in four months.
Tork Motors has opted for heavy localisation of components to keep the prices competitive. The localisation of the majority of parts will also enable the company to benefit from FAME-II subsidy. The only part that will be imported will be the lithium-ion battery, from a South-East Asian country.
Shelke confirmed in the recent interview that the T6X would receive 90% local components. As per the guidelines set under the FAME-II programme, manufacturers would have to source at least 50% of the parts locally to benefit from the subsidy.
Tork Motors had announced the price for the T6X in September 2016. The deliveries were scheduled to start in March 2017. However, the company’s CFO announced in November 2017 that the shipments have been delayed. Shelke stated in the interview that the new ex-factory cost will be relatively higher than the earlier announced price tag of INR 1.25 lakh. He added that the company has significantly improved the product.

As per the technical specifications announced in the past, the Tork T6X is propelled by an electric motor that makes 8 bhp of power and 27 Nm of peak torque. The claimed top speed and range are 100 km/h and 100 km respectively. The battery pack can be recharged to 80% in an hour, while a full charge could take two hours. Given the claim that the product has been "vastly improved”, we expect to see faster charging and higher range now.
