If a new report from Motoroids is to be believed, Suzuki Motorcycle India will unveil its quarter-litre naked roadster - the Gixxer 250, on 20 May 2019. The report further adds that a fully-faired derivative, most likely named 'Gixxer 250 SF', is also planned.

The Suzuki Gixxer 250 is expected to be unveiled to dealers on 20 May, while its launch could happen a month later. It will be followed by the fully-faired Suzuki Gixxer 250 SF.

According to a report filed on 10 January this year, the Suzuki Gixxer 250 is expected to be launched in India in June 2019. Thus, the unveiling date mentioned above could be a dealer preview of the motorcycle before it is launched in the country. The Gixxer 250 would compete with the Yamaha FZ25 while the Gixxer 250 SF would lock horns with the Fazer 250.

Leaked images in the past have revealed that the quarter-litre Suzuki Gixxer, just like its rival Yamaha FZ25, would use a single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled (instead of liquid-cooled) engine. The motor would most likely feature 2-valves, and thus the performance numbers are not going to be groundbreaking. We expect to see a maximum power output in the range of 20-23 PS. The motorcycle would most definitely come with BS-VI compliance and feature fuel injection technology. The same specs would be carried forward to the fully-faired model.

In terms of styling, the upcoming Gixxer 250 would most likely draw styling cues from the Haojue DR300 (a.k.a. Suzuki GSX-S300) that is sold in select international markets. Expect the feature list to include full-LED headlight and tail lamp and a full-digital display. In terms of hardware, the Haojue DR300 comes with upside-down telescopic forks, but the Gixxer 250 could come with a pair of conventional units to keep the costs low – a strategy that we have seen on the Yamaha YZF-R15 V3.0 and MT-15 for the Indian market. Braking department would include disc brakes on both ends, while the safety net would be provided by a dual-channel ABS.

Suzuki is expected to offer the Gixxer 250 in the same price range as the Yamaha FZ-25. Thus, expect a sub-INR 1.40 lakh* price tag. The fully faired model could cost under INR 1.50 lakh*.
