The India launch of the updated 2019 Dominar 400 is just around the corner, and while Bajaj Auto is yet to announce a date, a new report from Zigwheels claims that the motorcycle will arrive in this month. The source further adds that the 2019 model will come equipped with a BS-VI compliant motor, nearly a year and two months before the deadline set by the Indian government for the emission compliance.

The source report claims that the test mule of the upcoming motorcycle received a redesigned muffler with twin exhaust ports. Moreover, the catalytic converter looked different from the current model too, which hints towards changes to the engine. Bajaj Auto was one of the first manufacturers to comply with the BS-IV norms, and thus it would not be a surprise to witness the arrival of BS-VI ready models from the Indian two-wheeler manufacturer way before the April 1, 2020 deadline.
Zigwheels also claims that while the engine may not receive a performance bump, it will be more refined than the model it replaces. However, a report from last month claimed that the upcoming Dominar 400 will receive a more powerful motor. For reference, the 373 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine on the current model delivers 35 PS of power and 35 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission and features a slipper clutch.
Surprisingly, the instrument console is said to be coming with massive upgrades. The handlebar-mounted screen will reportedly remain identical to the outgoing model, although it will receive a new side-stand indicator. The fuel tank-mounted unit will receive a comprehensive upgrade with the addition of a gear position indicator, fuel gauge, trip meter and odometer.
Spy images have already revealed the new suspension setup that will now include upside-down telescopic forks at the front instead of conventional units from the current model. A monoshock would continue to perform the shock absorption tasks at the rear. Stopping power will come from a 320mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the back while the safety net of dual-channel ABS will be available as standard. Regular readers would know that Bajaj Auto has discontinued the non-ABS of the Dominar 400.
Lastly, the source report claims that the new model could carry a premium of INR 15,000-INR 20,000 over the current ABS model’s INR 1.63 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) tag.
