Two test mules of the 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 were captured on cam by YouTuber 'The FlyingBandits' near Talegaon, Pune. Yesterday, the new Dominar 400 was spied testing on the outskirts of Lonavala.
The 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 will feature cosmetic and mechanical upgrades in the form of upside-down front forks, redesigned front fender and a new twin-port exhaust with an inbuilt catalytic converter, while rest of the design will remain as is. According to a report dated 5 December, the new Dominar 400 will have a more powerful and refined engine as compared to the existing unit.
The new Bajaj Dominar 400 was earlier expected to launch in India by November-end. However, the launch plans have been pushed ahead to early 2019. This is the first major update to the motorcycle since launch in December 2016.
Bajaj Auto had initially planned monthly sales of 10,000 units; however, the Dominar 400 could only manage to sell around 4-5,000 units per month in its first year. Now, the flagship model has settled to an average sales of 1,200 units per month, with only 659 units shipped in October. The facelift is a desperate measure by Bajaj Auto to revive its market position.
The Dominar 400 is undoubtedly value for money offering from Bajaj. However, it is far from being perfect. Case in point, the engine isn't as refined as the competition and vibrations can be felt from as low as 4,000 rpm, which takes the fun away. Another noticeable issue is the high kerb weight of 182 kg, which can be noticed at a standstill or while manoeuvring through traffic.

Rumours are rife that the 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 will have a ride-by-wire throttle system, while its engine will feature a DOHC setup, which should offer linear power delivery and curb the vibrations to some extent. The current model is powered by a 373.2 cc SOHC motor that is capable of generating 34.5 bhp of maximum power along with 35 Nm of peak torque. It is paired with a slipper-clutch assisted 6-speed gearbox.
