Earlier this week we reported about Bajaj Auto’s plans to launch ABS versions of the Avenger family. The Bajaj Avenger 220 ABS has now been spied at a dealership yard ahead of its launch.
The Bajaj Avenger 220 ABS will be launched in India in January 2019 along with the Avenger 180 ABS variant. Like the Bajaj Pulsar range, the Avenger 220 will feature a single-channel ABS unit. We expect the motorcycle to cost INR 12,000 over the current prices as the cost differential is identical in case of the Pulsar NS200 and RS200.
It should be noted that the rear end doesn’t get a disc brake. However, it does feature an ABS ring along with an RLP (rear-wheel lift protection) sensor, which bars the rear wheel from lifting up during panic braking. Apart from the introduction of ABS, the Bajaj Avenger 220 will continue to remain unchanged. Bajaj Auto is developing the next-generation Avenger family, which will be launched in 2020.
With an average monthly sales of over 3,000 units (during the last six months), the Bajaj Avenger 220 is more in demand compared to the Bajaj Avenger 180. The Bajaj Avenger series accounts for around 5000-6000 units every month. While November saw a dip in sales of the Bajaj Avenger range, the Bajaj Pulsar series and the commuter motorcycles witnessed exponential growth.

Powering the Bajaj Avenger 220 is a 220 cc, oil-cooled, single-cylinder DTSi engine that is tuned to churn out a maximum power of 19 PS and a peak torque of 17.5 Nm. A 5-speed transmission transfers drive to the wheel. The Avenger series is known for its laidback riding ergonomics and the plush ride quality over broken surfaces. The low seat height of 725 mm is welcoming for shorter riders.
